Overview
Applies To: System Center 2016 - Service Provider Foundation, System Center Technical Preview
To administer Virtual Machine Manager (VMM), tenant administrators and self-service users use the VMM service in Service Provider Foundation for System Center 2012 Service Pack 1 (SP1).
The VMM service is available at this URI: https://server:port/SC2012/VMM/Microsoft.Management.Odata.svc/
For more information, see SPF and RDFE URIs.
Tenant administrator
As a tenant administrator, you can configure clouds, templates, user roles, and self-service users, among other things. A tenant administrator also has all of the capabilities of a self-service user.
Self-service user
Self-service users are generally given some of the resources that are available to the tenant to work with. The use of these resources is represented by quota points. When users deploy virtual machines or use other resources, they incur quota points up to the number of allocated available quota points. The self-service user uses templates and hard drives that the tenant administrator provides to create, deploy, and manage virtual machines.
Using the VMM service
The VMM service provides access to Virtual machine Manager. Generally, when you access a resource that this service provides, you will need to provide an associated stamp identifier, in the form of a Guid object.
Generally, operations that are performed on the VMM service occur asynchronously. A job is created that communicates the status of the operation. You must get the job object to correctly determine the outcome of the operation.
For an example on working with virtual machines in Java, see Virtual Machine Management with Java.
