Restricting Operator Access
Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1
Operators of the NNTP service must be assigned operator user rights. By default, everyone in the Administrators group on computers running a member of the Windows Server 2003 family is assigned operator user rights.
Important
You must be a member of the Administrators group on the local computer to perform the following procedure or procedures. As a security best practice, log on to your computer by using an account that is not in the Administrators group, and then use the runas command to run IIS Manager as an administrator. At a command prompt, type runas /User:Administrative_AccountName "mmc %systemroot%\system32\inetsrv\iis.msc".
Procedures
To add an operator
In IIS Manager, expand the local computer, right-click the NNTP virtual server, and then click Properties.
On the Security tab, click Add.
In the Select Users or Groups box, click Locations, and then click the domain of the operator you want to add.
In the Select Users or Groups box, click Object Types, click the operator or group, and then click OK.
In the Select Users or Groups box, type the object name to select, or click Advanced to search for a particular object.
After you make all of your selections, click OK.
To remove an operator
In IIS Manager, expand the local computer, right-click the NNTP virtual server, and then click Properties.
On the Security tab, in the Operators list, click the operator that you want to remove.
On the Security tab, click Remove, and then click OK.
