WebRequest.Method Property

Microsoft Silverlight will reach end of support after October 2021. Learn more.

When overridden in a descendant class, gets or sets the protocol method to use in this request.

Namespace:  System.Net
Assembly:  System.Net (in System.Net.dll)

Syntax

'Declaration
Public MustOverride Property Method As String
public abstract string Method { get; set; }

Property Value

Type: System.String
The protocol method to use in this request.

Exceptions

Exception Condition
NotImplementedException

If the property is not overridden in a descendant class, any attempt is made to get or set the property.

Remarks

When overridden in a descendant class, the Method property contains the request method to use in this request.

NoteNote:

The WebRequest class is an abstract class. The actual behavior of a WebRequest instance at run time is determined by the descendant class returned by the WebRequest.Create method. For more information about default values and exceptions, see the documentation for the descendant classes, such as HttpWebRequest.

Notes to Inheritors

The Method property can contain any valid request method for the protocol implemented. Silverlight currently supports only the HTTP GET and POST protocol verbs. The default value must provide a default request/response transaction that does not require protocol-specific properties to be set.
