The IMEI element is an optional child element of the Set element in Settings command requests that specifies a 15-character code that MUST uniquely identify a device.
All elements referenced in this section are defined in the Settings namespace.

The IMEI element value can be up to 1024 characters in length. The server does not validate the format of the IMEI element value.
The device ID parameter that is currently included in the request URL is not precisely defined; protocol implementers are free to populate the field as they want. To enable workable inventory-type report generation, an ID that uniquely identifies a device in the space of all devices is required. The IMEI element satisfies this requirement.
Protocol Versions
The following table specifies the protocol versions that support this element. The client indicates the protocol version being used by setting either the MS-ASProtocolVersion header, as specified in [MS-ASHTTP] section 2.2.1.1.2.6, or the Protocol version field, as specified in [MS-ASHTTP] section 2.2.1.1.1.1, in the request.
