Accounts that Speech Server Uses

This content is no longer actively maintained. It is provided as is, for anyone who may still be using these technologies, with no warranties or claims of accuracy with regard to the most recent product version or service release.

The Speech Server processes run as the NETWORK SERVICE account. This account is used to access files that Speech Server downloads, such as grammars and prompt files. When the process attempts to access resources from other computers in the same domain, the requests are made using the computer's domain account rather than NETWORK SERVICE. For example, Speech Server running on the MyServer computer in the MyDomain domain would access network resources using the MyServer@MyDomain account.

For files that are accessed directly by a voice response application, the account is determined by the Internet Information Services (IIS) application pool containing the application. By default, the Speech Server Setup program creates an application pool called Speech Server under which Speech Server applications are intended to run. This application pool runs NETWORK SERVICE. If you deploy an application in an application pool other than Speech Server, you should configure the application pool to run as NETWORK SERVICE.
