Installing Latest Service Packs and Updates

This content is no longer actively maintained. It is provided as is, for anyone who may still be using these technologies, with no warranties or claims of accuracy with regard to the most recent product version or service release.

Speech Server is dependent on specific software configurations to operate correctly. For more information, see Speech Server Requirements. While it is important to maintain the required versions of each prerequisite software item, it is also important to keep all software installed with the latest security updates and service packs.

Important

A serious area of vulnerability for computers and deployments is when malicious users use well-known and patched exploits that have not been fixed. To help protect your deployment from this type of attack, apply security updates as soon as possible.

Use Automatic Updates

One way to ensure that you have all the important updates installed on the computer running Speech Server is to enable Automatic Updates. This feature periodically scans the computer and lets you know when new updates are available for the software installed on the computer. It also downloads and installs the updates, if you set it up to do so. For more information about enabling and configuring Automatic Updates, see Automatic Updates.

Use Windows Update Web Site

If you do not want to enable Automatic Updates on the computer running Speech Server, you can scan for missing updates using the Windows Update Web site. If any critical updates are missing, you can choose to install them altogether or individually select the ones you want to install.

Speech Server Updates

If critical updates are available for Speech Server, you can find them using the Automatic Updates feature or the Windows Update Web site. For more information, see How to: Update Speech Server.
