Managing Unified Messaging

There are many tasks that you can perform after you have successfully installed the Unified Messaging server role on a computer that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2007. You can configure the Unified Messaging components using either the Exchange Management Console or the Exchange Management Shell. This topic provides information that will help you manage the Unified Messaging (UM) server role.
Managing Exchange 2007 Unified Messaging
After you install the Unified Messaging server role on the Exchange 2007 server and successfully deploy Exchange 2007 Unified Messaging on your network, you must manage Exchange 2007 Unified Messaging servers and the UM objects that can be created.
You can use the Exchange Management Console and the Exchange Management Shell to administer and configure specific settings for Unified Messaging servers, create and manage Unified Messaging objects, manage UM custom audio prompts, and to perform other management tasks for Exchange 2007 Unified Messaging servers.

Administrative permissions are required to manage the Exchange 2007 server that has the Unified Messaging server role installed. For more information about the permissions that are required to perform administrative tasks for Unified Messaging, see Required Permissions to Manage Unified Messaging.
Note
Installing and running the Unified Messaging server role in a virtualized environment is not supported.
