Applies to: Exchange Server 2007
Use the Maximum Number of Recipients to Display dialog box to set the maximum number of recipients to display in the result pane for recipient configuration.
The value that you set in this dialog box applies to the Recipient Configuration node and all other nodes under it. For example, if you set this value to 2,000, the result pane will display the first 2,000 recipients when you select Recipient Configuration node, which contains all recipient types. When you select Mailbox under Recipient Configuration, the result pane will display the first 2,000 mailboxes.
The number of recipients to display must be no less than 1 and no greater than 1,000,000. The default value is 1,000.
Increasing this value can be beneficial in very large environments where administrators typically manage a larger number of recipients. However, increasing the value also increases the time it takes to display the results. Depending on the size of your organization, it may have a performance impact on the domain controller to which you are connected and generate additional network traffic. You can reduce this impact by using recipient filters or modifying the recipient scope.
For example, assume that your organization has 15,000 mailbox users spread evenly across three Active Directory directory service domains, 5,000 mail contacts, and 2,000 distribution groups. Without any filters and without a recipient scope set to the forest, you must set your maximum number of recipients to at least 22,000 to be able to manage all recipients. However, if you are responsible only for managing the mailbox users in one of the domains, you can set the recipient scope to the domain for which you are responsible and filter for mailbox user recipients. Then you will be able to set the maximum number of recipients to 5,000 and still be able to view all the recipients for which you are responsible.
