Exchange Server 2007 Setup Wizard > Cluster Settings Page (RTM)

Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 will reach end of support on April 11, 2017. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.

Applies to: Exchange Server 2007

Use the Cluster Settings Page to select the type of cluster you want to install and to specify installation options for the clustered mailbox server.

Select Cluster Type

Select the type of cluster you want to deploy from the following options:

  • Cluster Continuous Replication   Cluster continuous replication (CCR) is a high availability feature of Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 that combines asynchronous log shipping and replay technology built into Exchange 2007 with the failover and management features provided by the Windows Cluster service. CCR is a two-node clustered solution that does not require shared storage for the clustered mailbox server. Select this option if you are deploying a clustered mailbox server that does not use shared disk storage.

  • Single Copy Cluster   A single copy cluster is a clustered mailbox server that uses shared storage. Select this option if you are deploying a clustered mailbox server that uses shared storage.

Specify Installation Options for This Node

Use these fields to specify a network name and IP address for the clustered mailbox server and to specify the path for the database files used by the clustered mailbox server.

Clustered Mailbox Server Name

Use this field to specify the name for the clustered mailbox server. This is the network identity used by the clustered mailbox server. This name will be used as the value for the cluster Network Name resource, and it is also the name used for connection purposes by clients and other servers. This is also the name that will be displayed in the Exchange Management Console.

We recommend that you use a meaningful name for the name of the clustered mailbox server. The maximum length for the name of a clustered mailbox server is 15 characters. The name you use must be unique, and once configured, it cannot be changed. You cannot use spaces or the following characters in the name of a clustered mailbox server: /\[]":;|<>+=,?* _

Clustered Mailbox Server IP Address

Use this field to specify the IP address for the clustered mailbox server. This IP address will resolve to the name of the clustered mailbox server. The IP address you specify must be unique, and it must be on the same physical subnet as the nodes in the cluster. The IP address can be changed after the clustered mailbox server has been created, but we recommend against doing so.

Specify the Path for the Clustered Mailbox Server Data Files

You can use the default path or the Browse button to specify an alternate path for the data files. For clustered mailbox servers in a CCR configuration, specify a path on a drive that is local to the cluster node. For clustered mailbox servers in a single copy cluster, specify a path that is located on a drive that is part of the shared storage. Regardless of which configuration you are using or which path you specify, you can change the location of the data files using the Exchange Management Console or the Exchange Management Shell.
