Administering Report Builder 2.0

You can work with Report Builder 2.0 as stand-alone tool or connect to a report server or a SharePoint site that is integrated with a report server. For more information, see Working with and without a Report Server (Report Builder 2.0).

Whether you decide to connect to a report server or run Report Builder from your own computer, you need to install Report Builder 2.0 on your local computer. The administrator of a Reporting Services installation typically installs and configures Reporting Services and other SQL Server components that you need to use Report Builder 2.0 connected to a report server .

This section provides information specific to Report Builder 2.0. For general information about administering Reporting Services, see the Reporting Services documentation in SQL Server Books Online. 

To install SQL Server and manage services, accounts, and connections in the Reporting Services installation, the account you are logged in as must be a member of the local Administrators group on the report server computer.

Note

On Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, you must be an administrator to configure the report server for local administration.

SQL Server 2008 PCU1 introduces the ClickOnce version of Report Builder 2.0. The ClickOnce version is automatically available to you in Report Manager and SharePoint sites integrated with Reporting Services. For more information, see How to: Start Report Builder 2.0 ClickOnce.

Note

Report Builder 2.0 cannot be installed on Itanium 64-based computers. This applies to the ClickOnce and stand-alone versions of Report Builder 2.0.
