Configuring the HTTP Kernel-Mode Driver (Http.sys)

This feature will be removed in a future version of Microsoft SQL Server. Avoid using this feature in new development work, and plan to modify applications that currently use this feature.

Beginning with SQL Server 2005, Native XML Web Services relies on the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). In Windows XP Server, HTTP support is provided by the HTTP kernel-mode driver, Http.sys. The HTTP Configuration Utility (Httpcfg.exe) is the primary tool used for configuring Http.sys.

The topics in this section provide information about how to use Https.sys and other support tools to configure the following:

To install Httpcfg.exe and Windows Support Tools

  1. Insert the Windows Server 2003 CD in the CD or DVD drive.

  2. When the CD opens, click Perform Additional Tasks.

  3. Click Browse this CD.

  4. Double-click Support.

  5. Double-click Tools.

  6. Double-click SUPTOOLS.MSI.

  7. Click Next, type your information in the Name and Organization boxes, click Next, and then click Next on the following screen.

  8. Click Next again to start the installation.

  9. Click Finish.

Note

For more information about the HTTP Configuration Utility after it is installed, either at a command prompt type httpcfg /?; or on the Start menu, point to Programs, and then select Windows Support Tools to locate online Help.
