How to: Set Editor Tab and Indent Options
Use these procedures to set the TAB key options in the Text Editor.
Note
The dialog boxes and menu commands you see might differ from those described in Help depending on your active settings or edition. To change your settings, choose Import and Export Settings on the Tools menu. For more information, see Visual Studio Settings.
Specifying Indenting for New Lines
To specify indenting for new lines
On the Tools menu, click Options.
Expand Text Editor.
To set indenting options for all editors, expand All Languages and then click Tabs.
—or—
To set indenting options for a specific editor only, expand the appropriate language and then click Tabs for that language.
Under Indenting, select the option that meets your needs. For more information, see Tabs, All Languages, Text Editor, Options Dialog Box.
Click OK.
Specifying Tab Settings in the Editor
To specify tab settings
On the Tools menu, click Options.
Expand Text Editor.
To specify tab settings for all editors, expand All Languages and then click Tabs.
—or—
To specify tab settings for a specific editor only, expand the appropriate language and then click Tabs for that language.
For Tab size, enter the number of spaces you want between tab stops.
For Indent size, enter the number of spaces you want to automatically indent.
Set other options as appropriate. For more information, see Tabs, All Languages, Text Editor, Options Dialog Box.
Click OK.
