Majority Node Set resource type

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

Majority Node Set resource type

You use the Majority Node Set resource type to manage cluster configuration data that may or may not be on a cluster storage device. For example, the Majority Node Set resource type can manage cluster configuration data that is actually stored on multiple nodes in a cluster at the same physical location or in a geographically dispersed cluster. The Majority Node Set resource ensures that the cluster configuration data is kept consistent across the different nodes. In contrast, in a single quorum device server cluster, the quorum resource maintains the definitive copy of the cluster configuration data on the cluster storage device.

Important

  • Only one Majority Node Set resource can exist in a server cluster.

  • Do not use the net use command to connect to the share containing the cluster database files (%systemroot%\Cluster\MNS.%ResourceGUID%$\%ResourceGUID%$\MSCS) in a majority node set server cluster. Otherwise, the Majority Node Set resource (the quorum resource) may be unable to connect to the share and may fail to come online.

For information on differences between a single quorum device server cluster and a majority node set server cluster, see Choosing a Cluster Model.
