Plan assembly items on projects
When you enter an assemble-to-order item on a project planning line, Dynamics 365 Business Central automatically creates an assembly order.
The assembly order is based on the project planning line, and its lines are based on the item's assembly bill of materials (BOM). The program multiplies the quantity of components on the assembly BOM by the order quantity.
You can use the following demonstration steps to learn about the process. After reviewing new customer requirements, your manager asks you to plan four units of item 1925-W (Conference Bundle 1-6) on project JOB00010 (Reception area remodel). Because these items are required in the install phase of the project, you decide to create a new planning line for task 1240 (Decorations and Furnishings). Because customers can customize this conference bundle, you should first set the assembly policy to Assemble-to-Order.
Select the Search for page icon in the upper-right corner of the page, enter items, and then select the related link.
Locate item 1925-W and then select the No. field to open the item card.
Expand the Replenishment FastTab, and in the Assembly Policy field, select Assemble-to-Order.
Close the item card.
Select the Search for page icon in the upper-right corner of the page, enter projects, and then select the related link.
Locate project JOB00010 and then select the No. field to open the project card.
Expand the Tasks FastTab.
Select project task number 1240 (Decorations and Furnishings) and then select Line > Project > Project Planning Lines.
Go to a new planning line and enter the following information:
Line Type - Both Budget and Billable
Type - Item
No. - 1925-W
Location Code - Main
Quantity - 4
Notice that when confirming the quantity, Business Central syncs the data to a new assembly order and then copies the quantity to the Qty. to Assemble field. When you select the Qty. to Assemble field, the Assemble-to-Order Lines page opens.
The Assemble-to-Order Lines page shows details about the linked assembly order lines. The details can help you customize the assembly item.
