Introduction
Microsoft 365 Copilot aligns with Microsoft's commitment to data security and privacy in the enterprise. It aims to bring helpful AI capabilities to end users while maintaining strong safeguards around private data that enterprises care about. As such, Microsoft 365 Copilot applies the security infrastructure already in place for Microsoft's cloud productivity apps like Outlook, Word, and Teams. Microsoft's experience securing cloud data provides a foundation for an AI assistant that respects user privacy.
Scenario
Imagine you're a business owner who needs to generate a large amount of content quickly and accurately. You have a team of writers, but they're struggling to keep up with the demand. This scenario is where Microsoft 365 Copilot comes in to play. Microsoft 365 Copilot presents Large Language Models (LLMs) with prompts including your business data, allowing it to generate accurate, relevant, and contextual responses to your prompts. Microsoft 365 Copilot uses your organization's proprietary business data from Microsoft 365 services to help generate responses that it personalizes to your business context. It only accesses data the user has permission to view within their tenant, ensuring data security and compliance.
Microsoft 365 Copilot only searches for information from the user’s tenant. It can't search other tenants the user might have access to, such as a tenant where the user is a Microsoft Entra B2B guest. When you enter prompts using Microsoft 365 Copilot, the information contained within your prompts, the data they retrieve, and the generated responses remain within the Microsoft 365 service boundary. This process aligns with Microsoft's current privacy, security, and compliance commitments.
