Pick and ship assemble-to-order items

Completed

When you create a sales order for an assembly-to-order item, Business Central automatically creates a linked assembly order.

Contrary to an assemble-to-stock item, for which the warehouse pick document is generated from the assembly order, the warehouse pick for an assemble-to-order item is created from a warehouse shipment. When you run the Create Pick function from the warehouse shipment, Business Central creates a warehouse pick document for the assembly components. When the pick is registered and you post the warehouse shipment, the assembly consumption and output are posted together with the sales shipment.

Selling and shipping an assemble-to-order item in a location that is set up with directed put-away and pick includes the following steps:

  1. Create a sales order for the assemble-to-order item. This action also creates the linked assembly order.

  2. Create a warehouse shipment for the sales order.

  3. Create a warehouse pick document to pick the assembly components.

  4. Register the warehouse pick.

  5. Post the warehouse shipment.

The following video demonstrates this process.
