Smart Client Software Factory V2 - May 2007 Release
Here is the latest version of the Smart Client Software Factory. If you have implemented SCSF or CAB, I would highly suggset you taking a look at this update. It will align very well to some things that are coming out in the future. While I cant blog about those things, suffice it to say that those folks in Redmond have been doing a lot of work around the smart client. Anyway SCSF is now in V2 and has a lot of great new features:
- Windows Presentation Foundation interoperability CAB extensions and View with presenter recipe
- Offline application blocks and recipes; the application blocks support asynchronous calls to WCF web services.
- Richer ClickOnce Deployment capabilities
- Enhanced guidance packages which includes code generation Visual Basic .NET 2005
- Improved installation with a new dependency checker
If you need to do an inplace upgrade on your development machine, here is a great set of instructions. Apparently there were a lot of folks that were mystified as to how the upgrade worked.

"...Apparently there were a lot of folks that were mystified as to how the upgrade worked..."I believe that many people who have posted opinions on the upgrade did not refer to the technicalities of the the software installation, but rather to its impact on existing solutions. The SCSF generates a few Infrastructure projects. Have these changed in this release? Should we regenerate the scheleton solutions? The previous version of SCSF used Entlib 2. Many projects utilize other parts of Entlib, will the upgrade be a problem if you rely on the previous version of Enterprise library. I believe that CAB and SCSF is used in large real world projects (which is the case in our scenario) and I need to give time and risk estimates of an upgrade scenario. Given the above, I don't really think there's much mystification involved, but rather a need to know what is the impact of doing an upgrade.
