Google blog search: I don't get it.
I'm sure I'm not the first one to tell you Google has launched a blog search tool. I really don't get it though. Blogs always showed up in Google searches.
Google Search on "Windows Driver Kit."
Google Blog Search on "Windows Driver Kit."
The Google search returned all the same blogs that the blog search did. The difference is that the blog search is constrained to blogs. If I'm searching for information on the Internet, why do I care if it's in a blog, newsgroup, traditional web site or anything else. I just want the info. As time goes by the lines between these delivery mechanisms will likely blur anyway.
Do you see some benefit to this that I'm missing?

its obvious..what if you just want to search blogs only?.. One use goes like this..I know that I have made this comment.. later some time, if I want to search this comment, the google tool would be ideal.. - Anonymous

I doubt Craigrow is the first one to say it either, but I am sure he will not be the last. But what is... - Anonymous

BlogSearch = "People talking about"
What's the world talking about PDC?
What's the buzz about XUL?
What's everybody blogging about SVG?
BlogSearch = BuzzMeter - Anonymous

It seems to me that, if the above comments are the only real purposes for the blog search, then its not enough to warrant a whole different search technique.
To me, it seems very parallel to only searching specific domains. I can search my alma mater's domain by just adding site:virginia.edu to the search string. Or i can use the advanced thing, but that takes too long.
Why not have source:blogs or something and then just limit the results to those that came from blogs? Is there truly some other benefit to a different indexing/search mechanism for blogs? - Anonymous

Didn't you notice the RSS feed link? You can actually subscribe to all blogs that contain your searchwords. This is WAY coooool. - Anonymous

It's there. For instance go to:
http://blogsearch.google.com/blogsearch?hl=en&q=craigrow
At the buttom (just above the google logo and page list) it says: "Subscribe: Atom (10 results - 100 results) RSS (10 results - 100 results)" - Anonymous

I think it's good that if you are writing a blog at obscure server, you can inform google about that and then when you blog something it will immediately show in the blog search versus many days to eventually show up in normal google index. - Anonymous

OK Morten, I found it. I love it. That is the best idea I've seen in a long time. - Anonymous
