Virtual on Virtual: Deploying a Virtualized Remote Desktop Services Environment

I’ve been a fan of Presentation Virtualization since the days of Citrix WinFrame 1.7 (in fact the CCA was one of my first industry certifications). However, the idea of running Terminal Services/Remote Desktop Services inside a virtual machine never seemed like a good idea. Well – times have changed thanks to x64 processors, oodles of RAM, and modern hypervisors. Given this new world the RDS Team recently posted an excellent document “Deploying a Virtualized Session-Based Remote Desktop Services Solution” with reference architectures and scalability test results. The RDS architectures outlined in the document include all the necessary pieces of an enterprise-class deployment:

Check out the document and be sure to subscribe to the RDS Team Blog RSS feed. They have great content and post regularly. Also – please drop me a line if you’re interested in an RDS proof of concept for your organization. Even though the industry buzz is focused on VDI these days, RDS still offers a great computing environment – often with less cost and complexity than VDI. Thanks --Jeff
