When I have my virtual background set to "None" i have a permanent one shown. It isn't an image that you can even choose from in the preset backgrounds or the ones that I have uploaded to use. I've actually never even seen the picture being used!

I already tried uninstalling Teams and reinstalling it, which did not work. HELP!!

If you are using FaceTime camera with your Mac, then check background settings in your camera.

    Dear @James Thrush

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on your description, you mentioned that even when you select “None” in Microsoft Teams, a random background image still appears, and reinstalling Teams didn’t help. For better understanding your issue, could you please provide us more details information as

    • Screenshot so we can support you more effective.
    • Help us verify that your device is Mac?

In the meantime, here are some suggestions you can refer:

    1. Clear Teams Cache

Teams often keeps old background settings in its cache. Clearing it usually fixes the problem.

First, fully quit Teams (right-click the icon > Quit) and make sure it’s not running in Activity Monitor.

Then, open Finder and press Cmd + Shift + G, and go to:

    ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/Backgrounds/Uploads

Delete any image you see there, that’s likely the one still showing.

Next, clear leftover data. Check these folders and delete them if they exist:

    ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams

    ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.teams

    ~/Library/Group Containers/ (look for Teams-related folders)

Restart your Mac after deleting and reinstall Teams if needed.

    2. Try to change another background then back to "None" background to check whether the issue still persists or not

If you have tried all methods above but the issue still persists.

    1. Try using Teams Web (https://teams.microsoft.com) to confirm if the issue is client-specific.
    2. If the problem persists even on the web, it’s likely an account or policy issue, and you’ll need your IT admin to check or they can help you create support ticket for Microsoft Support team to remotely assist you and collect background logs for the root cause. They can follow these steps as the link : Get support - Microsoft 365 admin.
