I have another office 365 account where all of a sudden to day it is stuck in a MFA loop. the final message is: "Contact your admin You are required to register an authentication method to continue but none have been enabled for this account. Contact your admin for help"

This message comes after i have input a number on the Authenticator app on my phone.

Also I am unable to access or log into my account to make any changes to my settings. i have tried everything i can think of

Moved from: Microsoft Security | Microsoft Authenticator

Microsoft 365 and Office | Subscription, account, billing | For business | Other

Hello  @Michael Snow

Welcome to the Q&A Community!

Thank you for reaching out. The message you’re seeing , “You are required to register an authentication method to continue but none have been enabled for this account”, indicates that your organization has enforced Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), but no authentication methods have been enabled for your account. This prevents you from completing the sign-in process.

Since you cannot access your account to make changes, this issue requires administrator intervention. Kindly contact your Microsoft 365 administrator and ask them to enable at least one authentication method (e.g., Microsoft Authenticator, SMS).

If you’re unsure who the Global Admin is within your organization, you can find guidance on locating them here: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support

Please have your administrator follow the steps shown in the following article: Manage authentication methods for Microsoft Entra multi-factor authentication - Microsoft Entra ID …

  1. Sign in to the Microsoft Entra admin center as at least an Authentication Administrator
  2. User > all user.  Select the user you want to act on, and select Authentication methods. User's image

Please let me know if there are any further concerns or if you need more assistance. I am happy to help!

Thanks for the support. In my case it needed intervention from Microsoft but the journey to get to someone I could actually speak to was more than frustrating, you can't fix or update anything if you can't get in. Even Copilot had some great suggestions, once you are in.

    I will chime in here.

My case has been escalated to MS Office 365 because I was told over the phone there is a bug. The phone support staff can try to remove the security requirements to get you back in but in my case that failed as well.

At this point I am waiting for escalation.

I was asked to reset my password, which I did. Now I cant log back into my Outlook and my Teams so I am cut off. Maybe dont reset your password if you still connected

I also have the same problem. I am an admin but I can't log in.
