Capturing audio, video, and screen content from Teams meetings for later review or sharing
Dear @Bill Nachtrab,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft 365 Q&A forum community support team. I understand how concerning it is to see a 50-minute recording only play back the first few minutes, and I sincerely appreciate your patience as we look into this. I would be happy to help you troubleshoot this playback issue and provide guidance on how to reach further support.
To help me narrow down the cause, could you please provide the following details?
- Was this a channel-based meeting (SharePoint storage) or a private/non-channel meeting (OneDrive storage)?
- Did you see any errors or “processing failed” notices in the chat after the meeting ended?
- Roughly when did you download the file after the meeting ended?
In the meantime, please try the following official troubleshooting steps which usually resolve issues with basic issues:
Often, playback issues in the Teams chat interface are related to temporary browser or application cache. I recommend the following steps to retrieve the complete video:
- Check OneDrive or SharePoint: Most Teams recordings are stored in the "Recordings" folder of the person who started the record's OneDrive (for private meetings) or the team's SharePoint site (for channel meetings). Please try opening the file directly from there.
- Download the File: Instead of streaming the video in the preview window, select the three dots on the recording in your chat and choose Download. Open the file using a local media player on your computer to see if the full 50 minutes are intact.
- Try Teams on the Web: If you are using the desktop app, please sign in to Sign In | Microsoft Teams using a browser to see if the recording plays correctly there.
As a member of the community support team, I am here to provide technical guidance. However, if you would like to speak with a Microsoft agent directly for account-specific billing or deep technical logs:
- For Business/School Users: Please contact your organization's Global Admin. They can open a service request directly in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center to have a Microsoft engineer call you.
For more information on how recordings are processed, you may refer to this official documentation: Play, share, and download a meeting recording in Microsoft Teams - Microsoft Support

I hope these steps allow you to recover your full meeting audio and video. Please let me know if the downloaded version still shows the same error.
