How to reinstall office 2024

I purchased and installed Office 2024 for my new laptop. When I got a bill for the 365 subscription at the end of the trial period, I unsubscribed to that subscription. Now it appears I don't have access to any of my Office programs. I attempted to reinstall Office 2024 but it won't accept the key number, telling me it was already redeemed weeks ago.

How do I reinstall my purchased version of Office 2024?

Hello Amelie Hyams,

I understand that you are having issue with Reinstalling Purchased Office 2024. I truly understand how you feel. Let me assist you go through this situation.

According to my own research, your product key no longer works might because:

  • Office 2024 is a one‑time purchase.
  • A product key is used only once to redeem the license.
  • After redemption, the license is permanently linked to the Microsoft account you used at setup.
  • Reinstalling does not use the key again it uses your Microsoft account instead

So, the “already redeemed” message is understandable. Here is the correct way to reinstall Office 2024 (Windows):

Step 1 — Sign in to the correct Microsoft account

This must be the same account you used when you first redeemed Office 2024.

  1. Go to Microsoft account > Services & subscriptions https://account.microsoft.com/services
  2. Sign in.
  3. Look under Products you’ve purchased.
  4. You should see Office 2024 listed there.
  5. Select Install.

If you don’t see Office 2024, you are signed into the wrong Microsoft account.

Step 2 — Download and install

  1. Click Install.
  2. Download OfficeSetup.exe.
  3. Run the installer.
  4. Wait for “You’re all set – Office is installed”.

Activation happens automatically when you open Word or Excel and sign in

Step 3 — Remove leftover Microsoft 365 trial

If the trial expired, Office apps may appear “locked” until it’s fully removed.

  1. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps
  2. Uninstall Microsoft 365, Office Trial, or Microsoft 365 Personal
  3. Restart the PC
  4. Open Word > sign in again with your Microsoft account

This ensures Office 2024 activates cleanly.

I hope this will help with your situation. Please feel free to reach back if you have further update or more questions.

Best Regards,

Office 2024 is a one-time purchase that is permanently tied to the Microsoft account used when the product key was first redeemed. After redemption, the key cannot be used again; instead, installation and activation are managed through that Microsoft account.

To reinstall the purchased Office 2024 (and not Microsoft 365):

  1. Verify and sign in with the correct Microsoft account
    • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services.
    • Sign in with the same Microsoft account that was used to redeem or buy Office 2024.
    • Under Services & subscriptions, look for your Office 2024 product (for example, Office Home 2024 or Office Home & Student 2024).
    • If it does not appear, check any other Microsoft accounts that might have been used.
  2. Download Office 2024 from Services & subscriptions
    • Once the correct account shows the Office 2024 product, select Install next to it (for example, Install > Install on this device).
    • This downloads the correct one-time-purchase installer (not a Microsoft 365 subscription trial).
  3. Install Office 2024
    • Run the downloaded setup file.
    • Follow the prompts to complete installation.
  4. Activate Office 2024
    • Open an Office app such as Word or Excel.
    • When prompted, sign in with the same Microsoft account used in step 1.
    • The product key is not needed again; activation is done via the account.
  5. If you see “This product key has already been used”
    • This message simply confirms the key was already redeemed and is no longer needed.
    • Ignore the key entry path and always install by signing in at https://account.microsoft.com/services with the correct account, as above.

If a Microsoft 365 trial or other Office version is still installed, uninstall it first from Settings > Apps > Installed apps, then reinstall Office 2024 using the steps above.
