Outlook new won't open, makes me attempt to sign in through Google which fails every time. I have a gmail email. I don't have Office 365. This began shortly after latest Win 10 update this week (I receive the extended updates for Win 10). My settings are all correct and I have never had to sign in before. Just prior to being locked out of Outlook new I kept getting the "olk.exe Entry Point not Found" message when I did open Outlook new.

Also, my edge browser favorites were changed at the same time to ones from about 1 1/2 - 2 years ago. I lost a lot of organization and saved resources.

Attempts to fix:

Reboot, System Restore only allowed same day and yet said it failed, Reset Edge, reset Outlook new, ran anti-malware for possible browser hijacker.

Any ideas of how to solve this?

The Outlook new solution & fix was complicated. Since I couldn't receive email I decided to try asking CoPilot in an Edge browser. The AI worked through the problem solving tree starting with the most likely solutions and proceeding from there. It provided a lot of step by step detail that I needed & like to have and offered to walk me through them, which I accepted. With every step that didn't work it had another step ready to try as one problem was ruled out. It is solved now, but only after 2 1/2 hours of "conversation" with CoPilot. And that was easier for me than the stress of talking with a human for that length of time. Your solution will likely be different than mine, so I encourage you to try CoPilot, just allow enough time to problem solve it. Here is a summary though of what I and CoPilot found:

The Outlook New application sign in repeatedly forced my Gmail address into a Microsoft sign‑in loop, making it impossible to open Outlook or access my email. This was not a simple login issue — it was caused by a deeper flaw in how Outlook handles Microsoft account aliases.

My Gmail address had been added as a Microsoft account alias years ago. Even after removing it from my Microsoft account online, New Outlook continued to treat that Gmail address as a Microsoft identity and forced me into a Microsoft login flow every time I opened the app and that would fail every time endlessly. The app refused to open offline, refused to bypass the Microsoft login screen, and ignored the fact that the alias had been removed. Resetting the app, clearing credentials, and repairing Outlook did nothing. The only way to break the loop was to manually change my primary Microsoft alias (to an outlook.com email address which I already had), remove the Gmail alias entirely from my Microsoft account, and then re‑authenticate the app using my Outlook.com address. Then I simply had to add my gmail address into Outlook New and make it primary.

Now Outlook New is working ok except I still get the olk.exe Entry Point not Found error message box that I have to close. I will try and solve this with CoPilot in the next few days.

I hope this helps.

    Hi Robert P

I understand you’re having an issue where new Outlook for Windows (Home) won’t open and repeatedly forces a Google sign-in that fails. You also previously saw “olk.exe – Entry Point not found” after a recent Windows 10 update. Do you see “Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime” listed under Installed apps (Windows Settings) or Control Panel > Programs and Features?

Please follow these steps if the AI steps do not work:

    1) Repair or Reset the new Outlook app

Repaire or reset apps via Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Advanced options. Try Repair first; if the issue persists, use Reset (Reset clears the app’s local data and you’ll need to sign in again). See: Outlook for Windows not responding, hangs, freezes, or stops working - Microsoft Support

    2) Uninstall and reinstall new Outlook

If the app package is corrupted, a clean reinstall can help. New Outlook for Windows is available via the Microsoft Store (and also via the Office CDN for certain scenarios), which supports reinstalling the client when needed.

    3) Repair Windows system files (common after a problematic Windows update)

Because you saw “Entry Point not found” after a Windows update, run Microsoft’s built-in repair tools:

    • Run DISM: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    • Then run SFC: sfc /scannow
    • Run DISM first, then SFC to repair missing/corrupted system files.

    4) Verify WebView2 Runtime is installed/healthy (new Outlook relies on it)

Microsoft 365 apps/features rely on Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime, and if WebView2 Runtime isn’t installed, features that depend on it won’t function. You should see it listed under Control Panel > Programs and Features once installed. See: Microsoft Edge WebView2 and Microsoft 365 Apps - Microsoft 365 Apps | Microsoft Learn

    5) Re-add Gmail in new Outlook using Microsoft’s supported Gmail flow (after Outlook opens)

Once new Outlook launches, add Gmail (Accounts > Add account) and complete the Google permissions prompt by selecting Allow.

Please tell me how it goes. If the problem persists, please don’t hesitate to reply to this thread and I will be happy to help. Have a lovely day!

Use the following steps to get new Outlook for Windows working again with the Gmail account.

    1. Make sure Outlook is updated to a build that contains the Gmail sign‑in fix:
      • Open classic Outlook for Windows (if installed) or any other Office app.
      • Select File > Office Account > Update Options > Update Now.
      • The fix for Gmail sign‑in issues is available starting with Version 2404 (Build 17531.10000) in the Current Channel and related channels. If the installed build is older, let Office update and then try new Outlook again.
    2. Clear new Outlook’s local state so it can recreate its configuration:
      • Close new Outlook.
      • Run the command to clear local state: olk.exe --clearLocalState.
      • Start new Outlook again; it will prompt to sign in and rebuild the local profile. When prompted for the Gmail account, complete the browser sign‑in and confirm access for Microsoft apps & services.
    3. If new Outlook still fails to start or keeps looping on sign‑in, remove corrupted local auth/cache data so it can recreate them:
      • Close Outlook and all other Microsoft apps (Teams, Word, etc.).
      • Press Windows + R, type appdata, and press Enter.
      • Go to Local > Microsoft and delete the Olk folder.
      • In the same Local > Microsoft folder, delete OneAuth (and, if present, identitycache).
      • Restart Windows.
      • Open new Outlook again and sign in to the Gmail account when prompted, again allowing Microsoft apps & services in the Google consent screen.
    4. If Gmail sign‑in still fails in classic Outlook (or if classic Outlook is being used instead of new Outlook):
      • Ensure IMAP is enabled in the Gmail account settings (Google is removing this control for some users, but if it is present it must be on). See Google’s guidance in Add Gmail to another email client.
      • In Outlook, remove the existing Gmail account from the profile, then re‑add it via File > Add account and complete the browser sign‑in.

These steps reset the new Outlook local configuration and auth caches and rely on the updated Outlook builds that fix Gmail sign‑in issues. Edge favorites changes are separate from Outlook and would need to be restored from Edge’s own sync or backup options.
