I previously used these speakers sometime in the last few years on a different Windows 10 laptop. I did not have the same type of HP laptop. I also had not updated windows. I found an article on this site that said that somebody with a different issue updated some sound drivers. However, it seems that I probably have those updated, and I know this is an old speaker system. I am having an issue that it only lets the left speaker function. I am wondering if somebody might know if there is something that might get this working. Thanks.

i found that they still work on another windows 10-based system. Logically, there should be a system setting that can be adjusted. There must be some software or something that is programmed and conflicting through my headphone jack. It is telling the speakers to only play through one speaker. When I plug a generic headphone to that speaker's right headphone jack, it functions like the speaker. It will not play the right side. However, if the headphone is plugged directly to the jack of the laptop, it will not function that way.
I do not know if it makes a difference, but the other laptop that it actually functioned correctly through, had the headphone jack on the right side, while mine had it on the left. It would likely be some other setting, like internal hardware, or software issues.
Both laptops have the same version of windows (21h2) 10. 64 bit. however, the latter one uses intel audio and realtek, while mine uses nvidia audio and realtek on the system. HP's website i can check to see if there is a difference. also see specs to see if the audio specs are different. i have not seen updates for an audio device for nvidia. only realtek. when i updated the audio driver, it did not change (unless the month is listed after the day in the date format).
Ok, I'd ask the pc manufacturer or in their forums. They'll be your best resource for trouble shooting problems with the hardware and or integration of components.
