    Please run the Activation troubleshooter.

Then select 'I recently changed hardware on this device' option.

Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

May I please know how you activated Windows previously? Did you purchase a retail license from a third-party seller or from the Microsoft Store, or did the license come preinstalled on your device?

Could you also let me know exactly which hardware components you replaced (for example, hard disk, motherboard, etc.)?

Have you tried running the Activation troubleshooter already? See,

Follow these steps to try reactivating Windows after the hardware replacement.

    1. Confirm Windows shows an activation error
    • Go to Start > Settings >
      • Windows 11: System > Activation
      • Windows 10: Update & Security > Activation
    • Note any error code shown (for example 0xC004F211 or 0xC004F213). These often indicate that hardware has changed or no product key was found.
    1. If there is a digital license, run the Activation troubleshooter
    • Sign in with an administrator account.
    • Open Activation settings:
      • Windows 11: Start > Settings > System > Activation
      • Windows 10: Start > Settings > Update & Security > Activation
    • Select Troubleshoot.
    • When the troubleshooter shows Windows can’t be activated on your device, select I changed hardware on this device recently, then Next.
    • Sign in with the same Microsoft account that was previously linked to the digital license.
    • From the list of devices linked to that account, select the checkbox for This is the device I’m using right now, then choose Activate.
    1. If Windows reports hardware change or missing key (0xC004F211 / 0xC004F213) These errors mean Windows cannot match the existing license to the new hardware.
    • If Windows originally came preinstalled on the device and the motherboard was replaced, a new license may be required.
    • To resolve:
      • If there is a product key previously used on this device, enter it via Change product key on the Activation page.
      • Otherwise, in Activation select Go to Microsoft Store to purchase a new Windows license.
    1. If the troubleshooter cannot reactivate automatically
    • Make sure the same Microsoft account that held the digital license is being used and that it was linked before the hardware change.
    • If the troubleshooter still cannot resolve it, use the exception path:
      • In Activation, select Troubleshoot.
      • If offered, select the link to reactivate after a hardware change and follow the prompts.
    1. If none of the above works
    • If the device or license no longer appears under the Microsoft account, or the troubleshooter cannot find a matching device, direct contact with Microsoft support is required so they can check the digital license and, where eligible, reactivate it.
