I am supposed to have access to all Microsoft365 applications (i.e; Onedrive, Sharepoint, Word, Outlook, etc.)

It seems I only have the ability to log-in and edit office files online.

    Hi @Nicole Tomlinson

Regarding your issue, may I kindly ask a few questions so I can understand your issue better:

    • I saw that you posted your question under the Business category so to better support you, would you mind letting me know is this account a personal Microsoft account (e.g., account.microsoft.com) or a work/school account (e.g., myaccount.microsoft.com) provided by an organization?
    • Also, may I kindly ask which Microsoft subscription you are currently using?
      • If you’re using a Microsoft 365 business/work account, you can check your subscription by signing in at https://portal.office.com > Subscriptions.
      • If you’re using a personal Microsoft account, please check your subscription by signing in at https://account.microsoft.com > Subscriptions.
    • Were you able to use the Office desktop before, or were you only able to use Office on the web?
    • Could you provide a screenshot of the issue (make sure to hide your personal information) if possible?

Hope to hear back from you soon.

The initial response may not fully address your needs, but it will help me better understand your situation. Once I get the information, I will try my best to find the next steps.

The symptoms match having access only to Microsoft 365 web apps, not the full desktop Office applications.

Key points from the available information:

    1. Microsoft 365 Basic and some other plans do not include desktop Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). They provide only web and mobile versions plus OneDrive storage. In that case, signing in at office.com or OneDrive works, but desktop apps are either not installed or will be in reduced/blocked functionality once a previous desktop‑included subscription ends.
    2. To install or reinstall desktop apps, the account must have a Microsoft 365 plan that includes them. Then, sign in at https://www.office.com (microsoft365.com) with the account associated with that subscription and use the install option. If there is no install option, either:
      • The subscription does not include desktop apps, or
      • The organization’s admin manages all installations and has not assigned or allowed installs.
    3. For work or school accounts, if apps are not already installed and there is no install button after signing in, the Microsoft 365 administrator must confirm that a license including desktop apps is assigned and that self‑service installation is allowed.

    Actionable steps:

    1. Verify the subscription type on the account (for home or personal plans) or with the organization’s Microsoft 365 admin (for work/school). Confirm that the plan includes desktop Office apps.
    2. If the plan includes desktop apps:
      • Sign in at https://www.office.com with the correct account.
      • Look for the option to install Office apps. If missing on a work/school account, contact the Microsoft 365 administrator.
    3. If the plan is Microsoft 365 Basic or another web‑only plan, upgrade to a plan that includes desktop apps (for example, Microsoft 365 Personal/Family for home, or a business plan with desktop apps) to gain access to the full desktop applications.

Using only the web apps (Word for the web, Excel for the web, etc.) via OneDrive and SharePoint is expected behavior when the subscription does not include desktop Office.
