I’m really sorry you’re dealing with this @Roseanne Gulay.

If possible, I suggest trying to reach your school’s IT support team outside the sign‑in process, such as through the university website, a general IT support email, or a phone number. You could also consider asking a teacher or a member of the faculty or administrative staff to help escalate the issue on your behalf.

I truly hope you’re able to receive support soon and get your account access restored as quickly as possible.

    Hi @Roseanne Gulay

I noticed that your post is tagged under Microsoft Teams for Education, so I’d like to double‑check one thing first to make sure we’re on the right track. Are you signing in to Microsoft Teams using an account that was provided by your school?

If that’s the case, and your Microsoft Authenticator app was previously linked to a phone that you no longer have access to, then the issue is related to the authentication method rather than Teams itself. Since you’re unable to approve sign‑in requests, the authentication method needs to be reset.

The next best step would be to contact your school’s IT administrator and kindly ask them to reset your multi‑factor authentication settings. You can share this guide with them and ask them to follow the steps to revoke existing MFA sessions and require re‑registration: Manage authentication methods for Microsoft Entra multifactor authentication - Microsoft Entra ID |…

Once this is done, all previous sign‑in sessions will be removed, and the next time you sign in, you should be prompted to set up authentication again from scratch on your new phone. This usually resolves the issue and allows you to receive the verification code successfully and sign in.

As this is a usertouser support forum, I don’t have the ability to make changes directly to your account. In your situation, the account is fully managed by your school, and only administrators with the appropriate permissions can modify its security and authentication settings. What I can do is share guidance based on experience and how similar cases are typically resolved.

I sincerely hope this helps point you to the right support team so you can regain access to your account as soon as possible and continue your studies without further interruption.

Thank you very much for your understanding.

Follow these steps, depending on the type of account and what options are available.

    1. Try any other sign-in method
    • On the Teams sign-in page, when prompted for Microsoft Authenticator, look for options such as “Use a different verification option”, SMS, or email code.
    • If another method (text, call, or email code) is available, use it to complete sign-in and then update your security info (add your new phone / reconfigure Authenticator) from your account security settings.
    1. If this is a school or work (education) account
    • Contact the school or organization’s IT administrator or help desk and explain that the phone with Microsoft Authenticator was lost and sign-in to Teams is blocked.
    • Ask them to reset or clear your MFA / authentication methods in Microsoft Entra so that you can:
      • Sign in again using a temporary method, and
      • Re-register Microsoft Authenticator on your new phone.
    • If you are the only administrator for the tenant and are locked out, the Microsoft Data Protection team must assist. In that case, call the Microsoft support hotline for your region (see Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support in the referenced threads) and request a service ticket for MFA reset/Data Protection review.
    1. If this is a personal Microsoft account used with Teams Free
    • If you still have another verification method (SMS or email codes), use it to sign in at Teams on the web, then update your security info and re-add Authenticator.
    • If no method works and codes cannot be received, follow the account recovery and passwordless guidance in the Microsoft account support articles referenced below.
    1. General guidance when stuck in an “Authenticator loop”
    • If no alternative verification method is configured and the Authenticator app is the only method, access must be reset by an administrator (for work/school accounts) or via Microsoft’s account recovery/Data Protection process (for admins who are locked out of their own tenant).
    • Forum moderators and community support cannot change sign-in or MFA settings for accounts.

Until sign-in is completed successfully, Teams will block chat, calls, and meetings. After access is restored, add at least one backup method (SMS, phone call, or security key) so a lost phone does not block access again.
