my laptop shutdown option is not working have to press the power button to shut if down

Open the old Control Panel (not the settings app)

At the top of the old Control Panel, set view to icons

Open Power Options

On the left, click 'Choose what the power buttons do'

At the top right, click 'Change settings that are currently unavailable'

Under 'Shutdown settings' disable this setting - 'Turn on fast startup'

Save that and close Control Panel

Restart (not shut down) your PC to apply the change and flush out your RAM.

Then check if that resolves the problem.

If that does not resolve the problem, on your Desktop, press Alt + F4, are you able to use the resulting dialog box to shut your PC down.

If that does not resolve the problem, go to the support page for your PC on the manufacturers website to check for any BIOS update that may be available and not yet installed.

Try these steps in order:

1. Use the normal shutdown path first: Start > Power > Shut down.
2. Turn off Fast startup:
   • Open Control Panel.
   • Go to System and Security > Power Options.
   • Select Choose what the power buttons do.
   • Select Change settings that are currently unavailable.
   • Under Shutdown settings, clear Turn on fast startup.
   • Save the changes.
3. Check the power button action:
   • In Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
   • Set When I press the power button to Shut down.
   • Save changes.
4. Restart the laptop and test shutdown again.

If Windows is frozen and the laptop will not respond, a forced shutdown can be used by pressing and holding the power button until the device turns off. This can cause unsaved work to be lost, so use it only when normal shutdown does not work.
