I accidentally assigned an alias to the wrong Outlook account. After deleting the alias, I am unable to assign it to the correct account since it says it is currently in use. What can be done to make the alias available again?

A deleted alias can only be added back to the account that it was deleted from. You can not reuse an alias created on one account for another account. No way. Sorry.

    Hello

Can you tell me the domain name of the alias, for example, is it outlook.com, hotmail.com, gmail.com, etc?

The alias cannot be made available again.

When an alias from a Microsoft-owned domain (such as @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com, or @msn.com) is removed from an account, it is permanently deleted and cannot be:

    • Re‑added to the same Microsoft account
    • Assigned to a different Microsoft account
    • Recovered or reused in the future

This behavior is documented under the “Remove an email address” section for Outlook.com aliases and confirmed in the referenced Q&A answers. The only option is to choose or create a different alias for the correct account.
