PowerPoint chart deleting data

Question

Took an existing PowerPoint slide with a chart, copied it. It had a single column of data, edited the data to include a second column of data. Chart updates to show both series. Save file.

Click on edit data again, and the second column of data is gone and the chart reverts to showing just a single series of data.

File is being opened and saved over a network (VPN to office). But it's not showing any errors with saving the file. The issue persists even after saving and copying the file to send to others to look at it.

The first set of data (00s/New Country) shows 50, 52, 46. Then you click on the chart, right-click to edit data, and the data changes to 60, 58, 55.

May I know if this is happening with a specific presentation? For the test purpose, could you please create a new PPT and check? This will help us confirm if the issue is with a specific PPT or new ones are also affected.

Immediately upon first opening, this is what I see. New Country has 50, 52, 46. This file was created by a different user at my work. We've tried opening it on multiple computers, all initially show 50, 52, 46.

However, when you then go to edit data, it immediately changes the numbers to 60,58,55. Just clicking on edit data changes the numbers.

About PowerPoint is showing "Version 2106 (Build 14131.20278 Click-to-Run). Current Channel".

File was initially created on a network fileshare over a VPN link. The file has since been copied multiple times, and doesn't matter if you open it locally or over the network, shows the one set of data initially and then changes the data when you go to edit data.

I downloaded your sample PowerPoint and when I opened, I could see the same data in PowerPoint that I see in Excel. For 00s/New Country, the data is 60,58, 55 in both PowerPoint chart and Excel.

I even updated the values for 00s/New Country in Excel which reflected the chart in PowerPoint**,** saved the PPT and re-opened, I can still see the new values,

I would like to confirm the behavior I mentioned above is what you are expecting, If I misunderstood the case, please feel free to correct me.

If this is the case, for the test purpose please try saving the PowerPoint to your local computer and check if you experience the same behavior. This will help us confirm if the issue appears only when saving the file to network or local drive as well.

Besides, please ensure your Microsoft 365 apps are fully updated, sometime updating Office fixes issue. To check version information, open any Office app, such as Excel or Word, click File>Account, check for the info mentioned under Product Information. Very similar symptoms here - We have a PPT file created with a Scatter Chart IN ppt - but when a user saves the file, then later tries to edit the data, the data is immediately lost/disappears/changes to something resembling default example figures. ??
