When I right click on a pivot table and select "show setting" nothing happens and I am unable to format my table the way I would like. This happens in all documents and newly created ones. When I create a pivot table, the field list will appear but when I try to open the setting pane the field list disappears and also does not open. How do I fix this issue?

If the Pivot Table settings are not appearing when you right-click and select "show setting," and the field list disappears when you try to open the settings pane, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Check for Hidden Sheets: Sometimes, the sheet containing the Pivot Table may be hidden. Ensure that the sheet is visible by going to the View tab and selecting Unhide.
    2. Minimize and Maximize the Window: This can refresh the Excel interface. Minimize the Excel window and then maximize it again to see if the settings pane appears.
    3. Repair Office: If the issue persists across all documents, consider repairing your Office installation. You can do this through the Control Panel under Programs and Features.
    4. Reset File Associations: Make sure that Excel is set as the default program for opening Excel files. This can be done through the file properties or the Control Panel settings.
    5. Update Excel: Ensure that your Excel application is up to date, as updates may fix bugs or issues related to Pivot Tables.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may want to consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for further assistance.

Also having the same issue. I can't do this spreadsheet in desktop because it is a live shared workbook that my remote colleagues need to be able to access in real time.

Not being able to access pivot table settings is a bug that directly prohibits me from being able to complete my work tasks. I cannot do my job because of this bug.

Additionally -- and I'm not sure whether this is related -- Excel keeps changing the font in my workbooks for no apparent reason. I always use the default sans serif (Aptos Narrow, I believe) but throughout the day today, at least 5+ times, my workbook will change itself to some random serif font. Even when I change it back to Aptos, it will go back to the serif within an hour. This is incredibly annoying.

I was having the same issue.

I switched to edge (from firefox) and the "Show/Hide Field List" setting seems to work fine.

In firefox, you can click the x to close the field list, and then you have to refresh the page to get it back.

    Hello,

What about the personal accounts? I have the same issue, and probably lot's of us have it, but didn't know, as they don't use Pivot Table Settings. It must be some bug in Excel for web. I've tried different browsers, even a new installed one on a retested computer, so zero cash, no add-ons, even no history. Settings doesn't show up no matter the document, even in the quite new ones. Then I've tried with my friend's personal account - same issue. The problem is not in our computers.

    Hello @Uchenna Chidozie

    Welcome to the Q&A Community!

Thank you for contacting us regarding the issue you are experiencing with PivotTable settings in Excel for the web. I understand that when you right-click on a PivotTable and select “Show Settings,” nothing happens, and the Field List disappears. This behavior occurs across all documents, including newly created ones.

To assist you effectively, I would like to gather some additional information:

    1. Are you signed in with a personal account (e.g., @hotmail.com, @outlook.com), an education account (e.g., @school.edu), or a work account (e.g., @yourcompany.com)?
    2. Which browser and version are you currently using (for example, Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome)? Have you tested this behavior in an incognito or private browsing session?
    3. Do you have any browser extensions installed, such as ad blockers or script blockers?
    4. May I know which exact steps you took to try solving the issue?
    5. Have you updated Excel to the latest version?
    6. Do you know if the issue happens to anyone else in your organization?

Based on the information provided so far, in case you haven't tried these steps, kindly follow the instructions below:

    Clear Browser Cache and Cookies

Corrupted cache files can cause interface issues. Please clear your browser’s cache and cookies, then restart the browser and sign back into Office 365.

    Disable Browser Extensions

Extensions such as ad blockers or script blockers can interfere with the loading of settings panes. Temporarily disable all extensions and reload Excel for the web.

In case you're using Microsoft Edge, kindly follow the steps in this article Add, turn off, or remove extensions in Microsoft Edge - Microsoft Support

    Test in Private Browsing Mode

Open Excel for the web in an incognito or private browsing window to rule out cached scripts or session conflicts.

    Check Display Settings

Ensure your browser zoom level is set to 100 percent and verify that your screen resolution is not causing the pane to appear off-screen.

Repair the Office app (for Windows 10 & 11)

Try repairing the app with instructions via this article Repair an Office application - Microsoft Support

Use the Desktop Application as a Temporary Workaround

If the issue persists, open the file in the Excel desktop application by selecting “Open in Desktop App” from the ribbon. This will allow you to format your PivotTable without interruption.

Please provide the requested details so we can proceed with further troubleshooting.

Looking forward to hearing from you with any updates or additional details.
