How can i set numberOfEvaluationPeriods and minFailingPeriodsToAlert for a static threshold alert ?

I want to create alert rule in azure with a constant fix threshold. Also i want to set numberOfEvaluationPeriods and minFailingPeriodsToAlert for the alert.
For example, lets say i have a alert rule which trigger if replication_lag is greater than 5 sec and only last 3 out of 5 numberOfEvaluationPeriods are failing

Hi,

You can find information how to create Log alert here. On step 11 Advanced options you have Evaluation period and Number of violations setting which corresponds to numberOfEvaluationPeriods and minFailingPeriodsToAlert properties.

Update: Static metric alerts does not have these options. Such options are available only for dynamic metric alert and Log Alert types.

Hi,

I don't see the option of Evaluation period and Number of violations in case if static alarm threshold, these options only come if i set the alarm threshold as dynamic where there is no option of a fixed threshold.

That is because you are not using Log Alert type. Initially you were not mentioning the alert type so because of these properties mentioned I have assumed you are using Log Alert. From your screenshot you are using Static metric alert and this type of alert does not offer such functionality. Such functionality is available only in dynamic metric alert or Log Alert types.

I believe that the properties minFailingPeriodsToAlert and numberOfEvaluationPeriods should be applied to static thresholds as well, as these characteristics are not exclusive to dynamic thresholds. They play a crucial role in both threshold types for consistent and accurate alerting.

If you do not believe what I am providing as answer you can verify this on your own by checking the API behind these type of alerts: Microsoft.Insights/metricAlerts@2018-03-01. The resource is the same for both alert types. You have odata.type 'Microsoft.Azure.Monitor.SingleResourceMultipleMetricCriteria' if you are creating alert for single resource rather multiple resources and type 'Microsoft.Azure.Monitor.MultipleResourceMultipleMetricCriteria' if you are creating alert for multiple resources. After that you have different criteria type (criterionType) : DynamicThresholdCriterion for dynamic alerts and StaticThresholdCriterion for static alerts.

For DynamicThresholdCriterion the possible parameters are:

criterionType: 'DynamicThresholdCriterion' alertSensitivity: 'string' failingPeriods: { minFailingPeriodsToAlert: int numberOfEvaluationPeriods: int } ignoreDataBefore: 'string' operator: 'string'

for StaticThresholdCriterion the possible parameters are:

criterionType: 'StaticThresholdCriterion' operator: 'string' threshold: int

As you can see the mentioned properties are only for dynamic metric alerts. Static metric alerts simply do not have these options.
