I have two Microsoft certification profiles with expired certifications. One profile has AZ-104 and the other has AZ-305.

I have access to both accounts and would like to merge both profiles under my primary Microsoft Learn account. I also need guidance on renewing/reactivating both certifications so I can obtain/maintain the Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification.

1. Merge the two Microsoft Learn/certification profiles

Merging is done by linking the login accounts; when a login account that already has a Learn profile is added to another profile, a merge is triggered.

Follow this high-level process (using the account that should become the primary destination):

1. Sign in to the Microsoft Learn profile that is intended to be the primary profile (the one that should ultimately hold AZ‑104 and AZ‑305).
2. Select the profile avatar (top-right) → Settings.
3. Under Account Management, select Add login account.
4. Sign in with the other account that currently holds the other certification.
5. Because that login account is already associated with a different Learn profile, this will trigger a Profile Merge. All learning progress, credentials, and transcripts from that profile will be merged into the signed-in profile, and duplicates will be removed.

Certification renewal behavior is as follows:

• Role-based associate, specialty, and expert certifications that have been available for more than six months can be renewed by passing a free renewal assessment on Microsoft Learn.
• Renewal is only possible before the certification expires. The renewal window opens 6 months before the certification’s expiration date.
• Once a certification has expired, it cannot be renewed via the renewal assessment. To hold that certification again, the required exam(s) must be passed again.

Applied to AZ‑104 and AZ‑305:

• If AZ‑104 and AZ‑305 are already expired, they cannot be renewed via the renewal assessments.
• To regain those certifications, the required exams must be retaken according to the current certification requirements.

Regarding the Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification:

• Expert-level certifications do not automatically expire when a prerequisite associate certification expires; each certification has its own renewal and expiration.
• However, if the expert certification itself has expired, it must be re-earned by following the current certification path and passing the required exam(s).
