I've seen questions and answers dating from 2023 regarding the issue that the New Outlook doesn't allow the user to set a rule to delay all outgoing messages. When will this issue be addressed?

Hi @Kate Wilhelmi,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I completely understand why having a global “delay all outgoing emails” rule is important, it’s a very practical safety net that helps catch mistakes right after clicking Send.

Unfortunate that, at this time, the new Outlook for Windows doesn’t support a rule that delays or defers all outgoing messages in the same way Classic Outlook does. In addition, Microsoft hasn’t shared an official timeline or roadmap confirming when or if this specific capability will be introduced.

That said, you can currently schedule the send time for individual emails by selecting the dropdown next to the Send button and choosing Schedule send.

As an alternative, you may find the Undo send option helpful. This allows you to briefly delay delivery after sending a message, giving you a short window to cancel it if needed. To enable this, go to Settings (the gear icon in the top‑right corner) > Mail > Compose and reply. Under Undo send, choose how many seconds Outlook should wait before sending messages. Once enabled, this setting applies to all emails you send.

If you prefer the more advanced rule-based behavior, you can also switch back to Classic Outlook at any time by using the toggle in the top‑right corner of the window.

I agree with you that this feature is extremely useful. It gives users valuable time to double‑check emails and make last‑minute changes when needed. For that reason, I strongly encourage submitting your feedback directly to Microsoft so the product team can consider it for future improvements.

You can submit your feedback through the Outlook (new) · Community portal , where you can describe your request in detail.
