I am currently struggling with the storage on my work account and it says you cannot add or buy more storage for the work account which is only 1gb storage

I have tried to look at moving over to my personal account but it says i need to contact admin but i am also having trouble finding out who is the admin as I am the business owner so not sure how i find out any of this.

Can anyone advise?

Hi, thank you for replying. I do not know which license my work account is using and i have tried to gain access to the admin centre which also seemed not possible.

I dont think we have ever worked with an it partner either but cannot be sure who set our emails up originally.

    Hi @Julie Holt

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum. Based on my research, some work or business licenses don’t support purchasing additional storage as a standalone add‑on. In those situations, the typical and recommended path to gain more mailbox or OneDrive storage is to upgrade the existing license, as higher-tier plans include increased storage by default.

That said, any licensing changes or upgrades do require administrator access. Because of this, the first and most important step is to clearly understand how your Microsoft 365 tenant is set up and what role you currently have within it, especially since you mentioned being the business owner.

To help me better understand your situation and guide you in the right direction, could you please share a bit more information on the points below?

    • Do you happen to know which Microsoft 365 license your work account is currently using?
    • Do you have access to the Microsoft 365 admin center at https://admin.microsoft.com with any account?
    • Have you ever worked with an IT partner, consultant, or reseller who may have been set up as the Global Administrator for your Microsoft 365 environment?

If you’re unsure who the administrator is, Microsoft provides a helpful article that walks through how to identify your Microsoft 365 admin:  How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support

Whenever you have a moment, please feel free to reply with the details above by leaving a comment under this post. Your answers will help me understand your setup more clearly and ensure the guidance provided is accurate and relevant to your situation.

Thank you again for reaching out. I look forward to hearing from you and assisting further.

To transfer your work Outlook data to your personal account, you can follow these general steps:

    1. Export Your Work Data: In Outlook, you can export your emails, contacts, and calendar items to a .pst file. To do this, go to File > Open & Export > Import/Export, then select Export to a file and follow the prompts to create the .pst file.
    2. Import to Personal Account: Once you have the .pst file, you can import it into your personal Outlook account. Open Outlook with your personal account, go to File > Open & Export > Import/Export, and choose Import from another program or file to import the .pst file you created.
    3. Contact Admin for Account Issues: Since you mentioned that you are the business owner, you should have admin rights. If you are unable to find the admin settings, check your account settings in the Microsoft 365 admin center. You can also refer to the support documentation for guidance on managing your account and storage options.

If you are facing storage limitations on your work account, consider moving non-work-related files to your personal account to free up space. You can keep your personal files separate from your work files by using OneDrive for both accounts.

If you need further assistance, you can contact Microsoft support for help with your subscription and storage issues.
