How do I delete an email account?

Deleting an email account depends on where it is being used. Removing it from apps like Outlook or Mail only disconnects it from that app; it does not delete the underlying Microsoft account or the @onmicrosoft.com address itself.

To remove the account from common Microsoft email apps:

1. Classic Outlook for Windows
   1. Open Outlook.
   2. Select File.
   3. Select Account Settings > Account Settings.
   4. Select the account to remove.
   5. Select Remove, then Yes to confirm. This deletes only the cached data on the computer and stops sending/receiving mail for that account in Outlook.
2. Outlook for Mac
   1. Open Outlook for Mac.
   2. Go to Tools > Accounts.
   3. Select the account in the list.
   4. Select Manage > Remove Account.
   5. Select Continue to confirm.
3. Outlook for iOS or Android
   1. Open Outlook on the phone or tablet.
   2. Go to Settings > Accounts.
   3. Select the email account.
   4. Tap Remove Account.
4. Mail and Calendar apps in Windows 10
   1. Open the Mail or Calendar app.
   2. Select Settings (lower-left; on phones/tablets choose More first).
   3. Select Manage Accounts.
   4. Select the account to remove.
   5. Select Delete account and confirm. This removes it only from Mail/Calendar, not from the server.

If the @onmicrosoft.com address is an alias on an Outlook.com/Microsoft account and is removed as an alias, Microsoft notes that aliases from Microsoft domains (such as @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @msn.com, @live.com) are permanently deleted and cannot be associated with any Microsoft account again.
