Does Microsoft have a fix for the common issue with laptop keyboards not working after Windows 11 Updates

I have had multiple laptops, multiple brands, having their keyboards stop working after doing Windows 11 Updates. So far, the only temporary fix I have found is to delete the Standard Keyboard Driver, reboot, then the keyboard will work again until the next shutdown. Then I have to repeat the process. Does anyone have a real and actual fix for this issue? I've been through dozens found with Google, none of them actually work though. I'm used to having issues in Windows and I can usually figure out a fix for them, but this one actually has me stumped! I've already updated the BIOS to the latest version, performed all the latest Windows Updates, Disabled the Filter Keys, Reinstalled the Keyboard Driver, Ran SFC and DISM, and some other things I found online. FYI, I can plug in an external USB Keyboard and it will work, even after shutting down and restarting. This has happened on HP, Dell, Lenovo, and ASUS laptops. The only common denominators I have found so far is Windows 11 and the Standard Keyboard Driver. Currently it is happening on one with a fresh install of Windows 11 Pro using the Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard for HP Hotkey
Support. I'm looking forward to receiving positive input on this issue.

The behavior you described (internal keyboard stops working after Windows 11 updates, works again only after uninstalling the Standard PS/2 driver, external USB keyboard always works) points to two common causes:

  • Fast Startup restoring a bad driver state after shutdown.
  • OEM hotkey filter drivers (from HP, Dell, Lenovo, ASUS) interfering with the keyboard class in Windows.

Here is my suggested solution on what you can do to fix it:

Disable Fast Startup

  • Go to Settings → System → Power → Additional power settings → Choose what the power buttons do → Change settings that are currently unavailable, then uncheck “Turn on fast startup” and save.
    • Or run this command in an Admin terminal: powercfg /h off
  • Then perform a full shutdown to test: shutdown /s /t 0

    I have attempted turning off 'fast start.up' and rebooting my laptop. I have attempted uninstalling drivers and updating drivers. I have tried entering BIOS and restoring defaults.

    None of these solutions have worked.

    Not sure what to do at this point

    Seems like Webroot caused my keyboard problem. I downloaded the latest version of Webroot, which has a fix for the keyboard problem. Version 9.0.42.42 - Keyboard is working fine at login and after...for now.

    When I contacted Microsoft support on Saturday they told me Microsoft was aware of the problem and were working on a solution. I installed a couple of new Windows 11 updates yesterday on both my laptops and that fixed the problem. I passed login using keyboard twice last night and once today - so touch wood it's sorted. I know I've jinxed it now. But before the fix, the only way I could use the keyboard at log in was to push F2 frantically at startup to go into BIOS - and then use F9 to revert to default settings, then save and exit each time I logged on. Which you will no doubt need to do to download/install the update. Hope this helps.

    I'm seeing that a Microsoft update should be out Tuesday for this after researching online. Once again, I have a Lenovo IdeaPad, and two new Lenovo All in one desktop that I haven't even ran yet. I turned both computers on out of the box signed in and had the problem. Expecting a call back from Lenovo today. Hope to hear this is true about the updates.
