I cancelled a subscription but was already charged. I received a message from Microsoft telling me I would get a refund. However, I then received a message saying the refund failed. How do I send my correct bank account details to get a refund?

Refunds for Microsoft subscriptions are always sent back to the original payment method; new bank account details cannot be submitted to redirect the refund.

    Take these steps:

    1. Confirm the refund status
      • Go to the Order history page for the Microsoft account used for the subscription: Open Order history.
      • Find the subscription; the entry will show whether a refund was issued or failed.
    2. Check where the refund is going
      • If the status shows that a refund was issued but the money is not yet visible, wait a few days; depending on the bank, it can take several days for the refund to appear.
      • Refunds are generally processed back to the original payment option; if that card or account is closed, the bank or card issuer typically routes the funds to the replacement account or holds them for you.
    3. If the refund failed or the original payment method is no longer valid
      • Because Microsoft cannot redirect refunds to a different bank account, contact Microsoft Store / billing support so they can review the failed refund and advise next steps. Use the support contact flow described in the Q&A references (for example, via the Microsoft Support “Contact us” page under billing issues) and have the order ID and any refund emails ready.
      • If Microsoft confirms the refund was sent successfully but the payment method is blocked, expired, or replaced, contact the bank or card issuer to locate or reclaim the funds.
    4. If the subscription was purchased through a third party
      • If the Microsoft 365 subscription was bought from a retailer such as Amazon, Apple, Best Buy, or Google Play, Microsoft cannot manage the billing or refund. In that case, contact the retailer directly to handle the refund request.

Do not send bank account details to Microsoft by email or chat; support will not ask for full bank account information to process a standard subscription refund.
