A new Windows product key cannot be generated or issued through technical steps; it must come from an authorized purchase or from the original channel where Windows was obtained.
If activation is failing because the key has reached its activation limit (for example, a Multiple Activation Key that has been used too many times), the only supported options are:
- If the key came from an organization (volume licensing/MAK):
- Contact the organization’s IT/licensing administrator. They must provide a valid key or additional activation capacity. Volume keys are managed centrally and cannot be reused beyond their licensed activation count.
- If the key came from a retail purchase or OEM device and no longer activates:
- Confirm that the correct key is being entered (no typos, correct edition of Windows).
- If the key still fails, obtain a new, genuine Windows license from an authorized retailer or the Microsoft Store. A fresh, valid key is required when the existing one is exhausted or invalid.
- If Windows was previously activated on this device with a digital license linked to a Microsoft account:
- Use the activation troubleshooter and the “I changed hardware on this device recently” path, or re-enter the original product key as a “new product key” if it is still valid, as indicated in similar activation scenarios.
There is no supported method to bypass activation limits or to recover additional uses from a key that has already been used beyond its licensed capacity.
