Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
Use the following checks in Outlook.com to find why emails after September 2025 are not visible in the Inbox:
- Check Junk Email
- Go to the Junk Email folder and look for recent messages.
- If legitimate messages are there, select them and choose Not junk > Not junk so future mail goes to Inbox.
- Note: Messages are automatically removed from Junk after 30 days and are not recoverable.
- Check Focused/Other tabs
- If Focused Inbox is enabled, open the Other tab and see if newer messages are there.
- If messages are incorrectly in Other, select the message and choose Move to > Move to Focused inbox.
- Check filters on the message list
- At the top of the message list, select Filter and make sure All is selected (not Unread, Flagged, or a date filter).
- On mobile apps or browser, clear any filter shown above the message list.
- Check Deleted Items and recovery
- Open Deleted Items and see if newer messages are there.
- If found, select the messages and choose Restore (or Move to folder > Inbox on mobile).
- If not visible in Deleted Items, in that folder select Recover items deleted from this folder, then restore any needed messages.
- Messages removed from Deleted Items are only recoverable for 30 days.
- Check Archive
- Open the Archive folder and look for post‑September 2025 mail.
- If found, select the messages and choose Move to > Inbox (or Move to folder > Inbox on mobile).
- Check rules and forwarding
- Go to Rules settings and review Inbox and Sweep rules to see if any are moving or deleting new mail.
- Disable or edit any rule that moves messages away from the Inbox (for example, to RSS feeds or other folders).
- If mail is being forwarded, confirm any option like “keep a copy of forwarded emails” is enabled so messages still stay in Outlook.com.
- Check sign‑in activity and account status
- If there is concern the account was accessed by someone else, review the Recent activity page for unusual sign‑ins and follow the guidance there.
- If the Outlook.com mailbox was not signed into for a long period, it may have been closed and mail deleted according to the Microsoft Services Agreement.
- If nothing appears anywhere
- If no 2026 messages appear in Inbox, Junk, Other, Deleted Items, Archive, or other folders, and rules/forwarding look correct, use Outlook.com in a different browser with extensions disabled (especially Firefox add‑ons) to rule out client issues.
- If the issue persists, use the built‑in Outlook.com help: select Help in the menu bar, describe the problem, then under Still need help? choose Yes to contact support while signed in.
