The quickest way to insert page numbers in a Word document is to double-click the header to activate the header/footer view. Then click in the header or footer and insert the page number with Alt+Shift+P.

To restore the missing page number galleries, exit Word and delete the Built-in Building Blocks template. These are stored separately for each installed language.

For example, if you are using US English, you will find the template in the folder at %Appdata%\Microsoft\Document Building Blocks\1033\16.

To open the folder, use the Run dialog box (Windows logo key + R); type or paste %Appdata%\Microsoft\Document Building Blocks\1033\16 and press Enter.

The built‑in gallery that shows only “More page numbers from Office.com” is usually damaged. Deleting and letting Word recreate the building‑blocks file fixes it.

Follow these steps with Word closed:

    1. Close all Office applications.
    2. In File Explorer, enable viewing of hidden items if needed.
    3. Locate and delete the file named Built-In Building Blocks.dotx (this is the file that holds the page‑number gallery).
      • After deletion, Word will recreate a fresh copy the next time it starts.
    4. Reopen Word and try Insert > Page Number again; the full set of page‑number layouts should now appear instead of only “More page numbers from Office.com”.
    5. As a workaround or test, insert a page number directly by pressing Shift+Alt+P to insert a PAGE field at the cursor.

If Word still misbehaves more broadly after this, run an Online Repair of Office as described in the repair documentation.

    Hi!

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Can I get a bit more information like when was the last time that you used Word without any page error or this is an ongoing issue every time you use Microsoft Word?
