Reward points cannot be redeemed for gift cards in Vietnam

In the old interface, if I wanted to redeem reward points for a gift card, I needed to enter my phone number and a verification code sent to that number.

But since updating to the new interface, I can no longer redeem rewards at all. Even though I've granted Location permissions on my browser, I still receive the following error when trying to redeem points:

Redeem error

Couldn't complete your order

We are unable to validate your location using geolocation verification. Please re-submit your order and try again. If the issue persists, contact customer support.

I sent numerous support requests to customer support and received only generic (like a robot's) responses: We cannot verify your location and some reasons for the restrictions on earning and redeeming points.

I also told them that I'm from Vietnam and not using a VPN / proxy to log in, earn points, or redeem points; all points I receive are earned through actual searches and task completion. I also allowed them to check my login, point earning, and redemption history to verify that I was indeed logging in, earning points, and redeeming points from Vietnam. But all my responses went to "the Void," with no further response from customer support.

To ensure my account wasn't blocked/disabled/suspended from redeeming points, I tried making a donation, and the donation was successful without any errors or restrictions.

Only allow donation

After that, I tried redeeming points on the Bing app on Android and received a message requesting identity verification via phone number as follows:

Bing app step 1

But after I entered my phone number (a real phone number, not a VoIP one, from the Vietnamese Mobifone network, and also the number I used to verify when redeeming points on the old interface), I received an error message: We don't support that country code. Use an email instead.

Bing app step 2

The same error also appeared when I tried it on a web browser.

Please check and fix this error as soon as possible.

Best regards.

I contacted customer support twice, and this is their response:

    Time 1:

    First time

    Then no further response.

    Time 2:

    Second time

    Thirt time

    Last time

Same as Time 1 and closed the support request.

Look at their response; does it sound like an AI answering?

Sorry to hear you're having trouble.

Beyond the information already provided please note that no one here can help with rewards points. You would need to fill out the form located here https://rewards.bing.com/support and then watch your email including the the junk/spam folder for a reply.

Based on the available information, Microsoft Rewards redemptions can fail when:

    1. The service cannot validate the user’s location or detects earning/redeeming from outside the account’s market.
    2. Phone verification cannot be completed with an accepted phone number type or country/region.

    From the documented policies:

    • Rewards points must be earned and redeemed in the same country/region as the Microsoft account, and redemptions from outside that market (or via VPN/proxy or IP-masking services) are blocked as a program-policy violation.
    • A valid, non‑VoIP mobile or landline number is required for SMS verification. VoIP numbers are not allowed, and there is also a limit on how many Rewards accounts can share a single phone number.
    • If Microsoft cannot validate the location or the phone number, redemptions (especially for gift cards) can be restricted, while some other actions like donations may still work.

For this scenario, the actionable steps supported by the documentation are:

    1. Confirm that the Microsoft account region and the actual physical location are both set to Vietnam and that no VPN, proxy, or IP-hiding service is in use when earning or redeeming points.
    2. Ensure the phone number used for verification is a working, non‑VoIP Vietnamese mobile or landline number that has not exceeded the allowed number of associated Rewards accounts.
    3. If the number or region has been used in ways that violate the Rewards account policies (for example, earning or redeeming from more than one country/region, or using IP-masking tools), the account can be restricted from redeeming points, and points may be invalidated.
    4. If all policies are being followed and the issue persists, the only supported path is to continue working with Microsoft Rewards Customer Support using the Rewards support form so the Rewards team can review the account and, if appropriate, adjust any restrictions.

The documentation does not provide a way to override or manually fix geolocation or country-code validation issues from the client side beyond the checks above; resolution requires review by the Rewards support team.
