I am trying to add a custom domain to the M365 admin portal and during the process after the TXT verification it is missing to ask for MX/TXT/CNAME and directly mention Domain added, and when checked under the domain it mentions pending. Already tried with different Domain providers same results. Also, I have M365 Basic subscription

Same here. The issue is still ongoing. In addition to the problem above, currently there is no workaround, adding domain skips verifying DNS records for SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and other records usually required to finished. But domain stays incomplete. There is no health check - nor DNS records. It only allows to continue setup and that the loop.

I tried to play around with domains through Entra or Azure. No luck. That can only verify the domain through MS=xxxx dns entry.

    Any update from anyone?

    Hi @RaGau

Based on my research, it appears that the domain addition process is currently using Domain Connect to automatically create the required DNS records. However, at this time, the domain verification process through Domain Connect is not working as expected in your current setup.

Because of this, I recommend removing any related domains that are currently in a pending status and then adding the domain again using the manual setup method, rather than selecting the automatic verification option.

During domain setup, Microsoft 365 can complete the “add domain” step after TXT verification and still show the domain as “Pending” because the required DNS records (MX, CNAME, additional TXT, etc.) have not been configured yet.

What is happening in this scenario:

    • TXT verification proves ownership, so the wizard can say “Domain added.”
    • However, until the rest of the DNS records for Microsoft 365 services are added and detected, the domain status remains Pending under Settings → Domains.

To move the domain out of Pending and get the prompts for MX/TXT/CNAME:

    1. Go to the Microsoft 365 admin center and open the domain:
      • SettingsDomains → select the custom domain that shows Pending.
      • If available, select Check health to see what records are missing.
    2. Use the domain setup wizard to get the DNS records:
      • On the domain details page, look for an option to Continue setup, Add DNS records, or similar.
      • If the registrar supports Domain Connect, Microsoft 365 can add the records automatically after you authorize it.
      • If not, choose the Manual path to see the exact MX, CNAME, and TXT records required.
    3. Manually add the DNS records at the DNS host:
      • In a separate browser tab, sign in to the domain registrar/DNS host.
      • Add the MX, CNAME, and TXT records exactly as shown on the Add DNS records page in the admin center.
      • Save/apply the zone file changes at the DNS host.
    4. Return to the admin center and complete setup:
      • After adding the records, go back to the domain wizard and select Continue or Verify.
      • DNS propagation can take a few minutes; in some cases, it can take a few hours before Microsoft 365 detects the records.

If the domain still shows Pending:

    • Confirm the TXT/MX values match exactly (including the MS= prefix in TXT records).
    • Confirm the changes were saved at the DNS host and that no old/conflicting records remain.
    • Use Setup → Domains → … → Check health to see specific issues.

The Microsoft 365 Basic subscription does not block adding a custom domain; the behavior described is consistent with ownership being verified but service DNS records not yet fully configured or detected.
