    Try this:

Open Device Manager, and make sure you've audio drivers installed and properly working.

If no audio driver is listed, you can visit your device manufacturer's website to download and install audio drivers for your system model.

If audio driver is present, you can try updating audio drivers to latest version.

Or if you've already updated them, try to roll back previous version to see if that works.

Also, run Playing Audio troubleshooter from Settings app > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters. Let us know what it reports back.

    Hi! Let me help you.

Please hover your mouse over the sound icon in the lower-right corner, then right-click it and select Troubleshoot Sound. Let the troubleshooter finish its task, then this should either resolve the problem or display an error message.

If that doesn't work, we need to remove the Audio driver from the Device Manager and restart the PC to reinstall it.

Here are the steps to completely remove a Device from your computer.

Step 1. Use the Windows key + X shortcut.

    Step 2. Select Device Manager.

Step 3. Expand the entry Sound, Video, and Game Controllers. Right-click the problematic device, which is either Realtek Audio, or AMD High-definition Audio, or High-Definition Audio, depending on the audio device installed in your PC, and select Uninstall device.

Step 4. You need to check the option Delete the driver software for this device and then click the Uninstall button.

    Step 5. Reboot the computer.

After the reboot, please see if the problem is fixed.

If that still does not work, please visit the support website of your laptop or desktop and then download and install the latest Audio driver, then restart the PC.

Try these steps in order on the Windows laptop.

    1. Check output device and volume
    • Select the speaker icon on the taskbar.
    • Make sure the volume slider is above 0 and not muted.
    • Open Sound settings and under Output, select the laptop speakers (not a monitor, Bluetooth, or HDMI device).
    1. Run the audio troubleshooter
    • Open Settings → System → Sound.
    • Under Output, select Troubleshoot and follow the prompts.
    1. Update the audio driver
    • In the taskbar search box, type device manager and open it.
    • Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
    • Right‑click the audio device (for example, Realtek or Intel audio) → Update driver
      • Windows 11: Search automatically for drivers.
      • Windows 10: Search automatically for updated driver software.
    • Complete the wizard and test sound.
    1. Reinstall the audio driver
    • In Device ManagerSound, video and game controllers.
    • Right‑click the audio device → Uninstall device.
    • Check Attempt to remove/Delete the driver software for this device if shown → Uninstall.
    • Restart the PC so Windows reinstalls the driver automatically.
    1. Try the generic Windows audio driver
    • In Device ManagerSound, video and game controllers.
    • Right‑click the audio device → Update driverBrowse my computer for driversLet me pick from a list of (available) drivers on my computer.
    • Select the audio device from the list → Next and finish the installation.
    1. If sound broke after a Windows Update
    • In Device ManagerSound, video and game controllers.
    • Right‑click the audio device → PropertiesDriver tab → Roll Back Driver (if available) and follow the prompts.
    • If that does not help, restore the PC from a system restore point created before the problem started. See "Restore from a system restore point" in Recovery options in Windows.

If none of these steps restore sound, the issue may be hardware‑related and the device manufacturer’s support should be contacted.
