“I am the only Global Administrator for my Microsoft 365 Business tenant. I’ve forgotten my password, lost access to my old phone/Authenticator, and have no other admins. I need a ticket raised and transfer to the DATA PROTECTION / TENANT RECOVERY TEAM

Hi @Tom Shorto ,

I understand this is incredibly stressful. Since you are the only Global Admin and are locked out of your Authenticator app, you must get in touch with the Microsoft Data Protection Team to restore your access.

Because the automated phone system can be difficult to bypass, follow these exact steps to speak to a human:

1. Call the Support Number

Since your domain is in the UK, call one of these official lines:

UK Support: 0344 800 2400 or 0800 032 6417

(For other regions, use the official Global Customer Service phone numbers list).

2. How to Get Past the Automated Voice Robot

The automated system will try to send you links and hang up. To prevent this:

When it asks what your problem is, say: "MFA Account Lockout" or "Data Protection Team".

Do NOT say "password reset."

  • If it asks if you are a Home or Business user, say: "Business".Hi @Tom Shorto, I understand this is incredibly stressful. Hi @Tom Shorto

First of all, I’m really sorry to hear what you’re going through. I can completely understand how frustrating and stressful this situation must feel.

Before anything else, I just want to gently clarify that this is a user‑to‑user support forum, so I’m here as an end user like yourself. I’m not part of Microsoft’s Data Protection or internal support teams, so I don’t have the ability to directly access or recover accounts. That said, I really do want to help point you toward a practical path that has worked for others in similar situations.

If calling support hasn’t been effective so far, there is a workaround you might consider. You can create a new Microsoft 365 tenant by signing up for a trial subscription here: Microsoft 365 Business Plans and Pricing | Microsoft 365

Once the new tenant is created, you’ll be able to sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center and submit a support ticket from there. In your request, clearly explain that you need help with regaining access to an administrator account in your original tenant and ask to be routed to the Data Protection team. This approach typically ensures that the ticket is properly assigned and handled by a real support engineer rather than remaining stuck in automated flows.

One small but important note, once your original issue has been resolved, please remember to cancel the trial subscription to avoid any unintended charges.

Or just to give you a bit of peace of mind while you’re trying this, you don’t need to worry about being charged unexpectedly from the trial/temporary setup used to raise the ticket. You can turn off recurring billing by following this guide: Manage recurring billing in the Microsoft 365 admin center | Microsoft

Thank you again for taking time to read my response. I truly hope this gives you a clear way forward and helps you quickly get in touch with the Data Protection team so you can regain access as soon as possible.
