Follow these steps to repair the Office 2013 installation so Word stops prompting for setup and elevation:

    1. Close all Office apps.
    2. Open Control Panel:
      • On Windows 8/8.1/10: Select Start, type "Control Panel", then open it.
    3. Go to Programs > Programs and Features.
    4. Find the Microsoft Office 2013 product in the list.
    5. Select it and choose Change.
    6. When the repair dialog appears, choose:
      • Online Repair (recommended) to fully repair Office, then select Repair.
      • If only Quick Repair is available, run that first; if the problem persists, run Online Repair if offered.
    7. Let the repair complete, then restart the computer and open Word again.

If Word or other Office apps still fail to open correctly or keep trying to run setup after an Online Repair, uninstall Office 2013 completely from Programs and Features, restart the PC (not just shut down), and then reinstall Office 2013 from the original source or from the Microsoft account where it was purchased.

If the issue started after upgrading Windows 10 and the Office 2013 apps show an error like “Word has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly,” make sure Office 2013 is fully updated:

    1. Open any Office app (for example, Word).
    2. Choose File > Account (or Office Account in Outlook).
    3. Under Product Information, choose Update Options > Update Now.
    4. If Update Now is missing, choose Update Options > Enable Updates, then choose Update Options > Update Now again.

This applies the October product update (15.0.4763) and later, which fixes known Office 2013 issues on newer Windows versions.

That constant "allowing app to make changes" pop-up followed by a failed setup loop is incredibly annoying! What’s happening is that Windows has lost track of some core Office component paths, so every time you open Word, it tries to launch a background "self-repair" installer which then chokes and fails.

You can usually break this loop right away with two simple steps:

Run a Quick Office Repair: Press the Windows Key + R, type appwiz.cpl, and hit Enter. Scroll down the list until you find Microsoft Office 2013, click on it, and select Change at the top of the window. Choose the Repair option and let it run. This will cleanly re-register all the broken file mappings so Word stops calling the installer on launch.

Fix the Registry Block (If Repair Fails): If the prompt keeps appearing, Windows is struggling to write the confirmation flags. Right-click on your Word shortcut icon, select Run as administrator just once, let it complete whatever background processing it needs to do, and close it.

Running it as an administrator once usually gives the app the permissions it needs to write the "setup complete" keys to the registry, silencing those annoying UAC pop-ups for good!
