I buy new Lenovo Thinkpad and install all windows updates and drivers and software for Canon MF453dw software. When I start scanning with the CANON MF SCAN UTILITY program, the following message appears: "Cannot communicate with the scanner. The cable may be disconnected, or the scanner may be turned off. Check the scanner status and try again. Scanner driver will be terminated**.**"
I reinstalled the drivers again, reset the printer, modem. I try to blocked all firewall, but problem is not solved.

I have installed on old Lenovo which I didn't windows update and still works on it.

I have the same problem on my new HP notebook.

On the old one notebook W11 23H2 is working properly with the latest canon drivers. The instalation on the new HP notebook W11 24H2 does not work MF SCAN UTILITY shows the same message: "Cannot communicate with the scanner. The cable may be disconnected, or the scanner may be turned off. Check the scanner status and try again. Scanner driver will be terminated**.**" (MF Network Scanner Selector 1.01, MF Scan Utility 1.21.0.2.)

I tried everything (reinstall drivers and scanner, switch off defender firewall, switch off defender antivirus) - nothing helped.

Probably issue in Win11 24H2 and Canon Scanner Driver.

I have spent the last two hours trying to get my MF212W scanner up and running. I'm running Windows 11 on a Lenovo Legion desktop. I followed multiple suggestions in different forums including

    1. Using Device Manager to disable Imaging Device, updating driver, and rebooting
    2. Uninstalling and reinstalling all drivers and scan utilities
    3. Applying the optional update to .NET framework for 24H2 (KB 5050577)
    4. Checking firewall settings

Finally, I went back to the Canon support site, and instead of choosing Windows 11 from the dropdown for selecting the OS, I chose Windows 10 (x64) and downloaded the, supposedly not needed for this OS scan patch: [Windows 32-bit & 64-bit] Patch for Network Scan, USB Scan.

I installed and rebooted, and my scanner was back up and running in 2 minutes. I hope this helps someone else avoid the frustration.

    Verified, it works.

1 - After upgrading from Windows 7, I was not using Widnows 8.1, but Windows 10. I think Canon uses the same driver for Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. I could not print and when using the scan function I got the same error message that the scanner is not active or is in use by another application. After spending several days and following so many tips, I could not get it to work. Here is what I finally did.

    1. Uninstall the Canon MF6530 driver and application. You can also use Device Manager to view all Canon Image and Printer devices and remove them from there as well.
    2. Disconnect the printer USB cable.
    3. Restart the PC
    4. Reinstall the MF6530 driver and application. Download from the Canon website and make sure you have the correct version
    5. THIS IS IMPORTANT because it worked for me as many tips did not include this. Go to Control Panel->System -> Advanced System Settings. This will open the "System Properties" window. Then click on the Environment Variables button at the bottom. Scroll down the bottom list and find "Path" and then click on Edit. Add this " ;C:\Windows\twain_32\MF6500 " to the value of the Path variable. Note that each value is separated by a semicolon.
    6. Restart your computer

The latest firmware already installed. The scanner is connected via ethernet and it works from all my W11 23H2 and W10 22H2 computers in my family.

I asume the issue is the W11 24H2 and canon MF Network Scanner Selector from 2015.

If you are using ethernet, then you need to set a static IP address in your router.
