The issue you are facing with the Canon MF Scan Utility on your new Lenovo ThinkPad where you can print but not scan is relatively common and can be due to several reasons ranging from driver conflicts to network settings. Suggestion:Step 1: Reinstall and Update Canon DriversPress Win + X and select Device Manager.In Device Manager, expand Imaging devices or Printers.Right-click on your Canon MF453dw and select Uninstall device.If prompted, check Delete the driver software for this device and click Uninstall.Visit the Canon support website and download the latest drivers for the Canon MF453dw. Install the drivers following the on-screen instructions.Step 2: Configure Windows Firewall and Security SoftwareGo to Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Defender Firewall.Click on Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall.Ensure that the Canon MF Scan Utility and other related Canon applications are allowed through the firewall for both public and private networks.Temporarily disable any third-party antivirus or firewall software to check if they’re causing interference.
Step 3: Check Physical Connections:
- Make sure the USB cable (if you're using USB) is securely connected to both the scanner and the computer.
- If using a network connection (Wi-Fi or ethernet), ensure the scanner is properly connected to your network.
Step 4: Test Scan Function on a Different User AccountSometimes the issue could be related to the current user profile. Try creating a new user account on your Lenovo laptop, and see if the scanning functionality works there.
Press Win + I to open the Settings app.
Go to Accounts > Family & other users.
Under Other users, click on Add someone else to this PC.
Follow the prompts to create a new user.
Click on I don't have this person's sign-in information and then Add a user without a Microsoft account.
After creating the account, click on the new account under Other users.
Click Change account type and choose Administrator from the dropdown menu.
Click OK.
