Still not fix ‘no internet’ connection bug in Windows 10 2004 (OS Build 19041.546)

I ever posted this issue on MS TechNet and someone told me that it’s a bug on version 2004 from Microsoft. Then nothing can do.

So I tried this.
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet”
Modify “EnableActiveProbing” and change the value from ‘0’ to ‘1’.

Result: Not help. It only works successfully for every several computer start.

After upgrade my PC to OS Build 19041.56. The issue is not solved. It only works normal for every several computer start.
If 'no internet' issue happens, I can't syn email normally on Outlook / Open onedrive files from Excel / Spotify app failed.

Please help.

No Internet Access Warning Message in Windows

In some rare circumstances, BloxOne Endpoint can make Windows incorrectly display a “No Internet Access” warning, although the connectivity is working fine. This is caused by a limitation in Microsoft Network Connectivity Status Indicator (NCSI) feature.

NCSI uses Active DNS probes to validate internet connectivity on each network interface. However, these DNS checks are restricted and NCSI will refuse to send them to a DNS server on a different interface (such as 127.0.0.1). Since BloxOne Endpoint runs a DNS forwarder on the loopback interface (127.0.0.1) as part of its core operation, these specific checks are not compatible with endpoint. This limitation does not cause any problem in majority of the environments, because Windows also performs some other checks to validate the connectivity.

To remedy this situation if it occurs in your configuration, do the following. NOTE: This fix must be deployed to the Local Group Policy.

Locate gpedit.msc. The setting for gpedit.msc within "Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Network -> Network Connectivity Status Indicator".
Enable the 'Specify Global DNS' setting.
Run gpupdate /force.
Reboot your system. A reboot is required to clear the existing issue.

I tried a few of the fixes listed in this threat.
But, in my case, what was wrong was a typo in the registry "Data" for "ActiveWebProbeContent".
See the attached image. The value was "MicrosoftPConnect Test" instead of "Microsoft Connect Test".

I'm absolutely sure this typo was not entered by the user, a helpful friend, or myself.
It's got to be in some recent Windows 10 update.

The machine is an ASUS desktop.
Windows 10 Ver 21H1, Build: 1043.1706 Experience Pack: 120.2212.4170.0

Thanks for your updating. Have you checked HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\NetworkConnectivityStatusIndicator to see if there any registry keys?

Find a solution. If I connected Surfshark VPN and access Internet, then disconnect VPN. It will return to normal. 'No internet' issue will be disappeared.

Good to hear that you have solved this issue by yourself. In addition, thanks for sharing your solution in the forum as it would be helpful to anyone who encounters similar issues.

In addition ,if there is no specific event/error about the problem, it is hard for us to analyze root cause from forum support level . In such case, we need to trace network monitor to find any clues. Unfortunately, analysis of network traffic is beyond our forum support level. If the issue is urgent and you want to find the root cause, I would suggest you open a case with Microsoft where more in-depth investigation can be done so that you would get a more satisfying explanation and solution to this issue.

I have the exact same issue. Been like this for months. I am on the latest Windows Version and patches. Issue is apparently related to the VPN that is running. I am using Global Protect and the icon says No Internet Access. Application seem to work just fine though. I can stop the the Wifi and start again the access shows correctly but after a bit of time it goes back to No internet access.

If Global Protect is not running the icon is perfect.

1.Did the problem occur on all windows 2004 OS Build 19041.56 machines? Or just occurred on certain machines? Only certain machine and happen after upgrade to version 2004.

2.Does restarting the Network Location Awareness (NLA) service fix the issue? No, can't stop one service

3.Are proxies or hotspots present in the problem environment? Not present

Find a solution.
If I connected Surfshark VPN and access Internet, then disconnect VPN. It will return to normal. 'No internet' issue will be disappeared.

Hello,

I confirm that the problem persists despite the installation of version 20h2.

In our case when the proxy is activated we have the indication that we do not have internet.

If the proxy is not activated on the same computer, we have no problem.

All PCs in 1909 or later no problem whether or not they have the proxy

I think you should try the above solution from EcoAxis to connect to a Surfshark VPN, access the Internet and then disconnect from the VPN.

I also tried a different VPN from Surfshark VPN (I tried using the free APKCombo VPN) but the solution still works (I'm on 20H2 as well).

For some reasons the above solution from EcoAxis works but everything is back to "No Connection" again after a system restart. So after a couple of days trying to find another solution to fix the "No Connection" issue on 20H2, I finally figured out a solution that actually works on the Microsoft Forums.

Just do the below steps and everything is working again even after a system restart :D No more "No Connection" thingy.

EDIT (2020-12-03) : The solution regarding changing values in registry also stopped working after a while :( But finally I have managed to fix the solution by running System File Checker "sfc /scannow" together with DISM Restore Health "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" command lines in an elevated CMD (with Administrator rights), let them fix some system corruptions for me and the problem has completely gone. (My PC has been running for more than 12 hours with several restarts and so far so good).

Tried this and still facing this issue. I have one 20H2 and a couple of 2004 that are facing this issue. The only workaround is to disconnect from the VPN and then "no internet" get fixed and they connect back in for a period of time until the issue comes back. The funny part sometimes my users do not notice since everything works fine until they close outlook, chrome, or teams and try to reopen that when it stops working. I hope Microsoft releases a fix for this!

I do not have VPN in my system, not sure it's useful for you. You can try the WindowsSpyBlocker's NSCI Test when the VPN is working, like this:

Looks like have some issues. I am not sure whether the three errors contributes to this problem, you can try Apply Debian NCSI or others NCSI and test it again.

Now, this is the only solution that worked for me. I got the WindowsSpyBlocker from GitHub, ran it, and went to Telemetry > NCSI > apply Microsoft NCSI. This fixes your NCSI values and fixes the problem in mere seconds, without any need to reboot.
